The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Vicky McClure are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."

The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."

Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."

"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for further series.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
